The Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland programme is a joint initiative originally established by Dance Base, Scotland's National Centre for Dance, and Scottish Ballet, Scotland's National Dance Company, and delivered in partnership with Parkinson's UK.
Shaper/Caper are delighted to host a weekly class designed especially for those living with Parkinson’s and their families and carers. These classes are suitable for those people with no dance experience and will develop participants’ confidence and creativity, whilst addressing Parkinson’s specific concerns such as; balance, flexibility, coordination, gait, and social isolation.
Dundee and Angus
People living with Parkinson's in Dundee and Angus are invited to attend our in-person class, which takes place every Monday from 1:30pm-3pm at Olympia in Dundee city centre. The classes are followed by a casual social meeting, with tea and coffee provided by us. The class is free to attend thanks to generous funding from The RS McDonald Charitable Trust.
Fife
Shaper/Caper delivers a Dance for Parkinson's class for The Parkinson's UK Fife Branch. The Fife Community class takes place on Thursdays from 11:30-12:30 on the Zoom app. Access to this class is through the Parkinson’s UK Fife Branch. Email the chairperson, John Mihinick for more information.

Dance for Parkinson’s on STV News
Our Dance for Parkinson’s class featured on STV News in February 2023, focusing on the importance and impact of our sessions, especially from a social perspective when deterioration occurs, and when the physical execution of dance moves becomes challenging.
Tulips and Tea
This March, our Dance for Parkinson’s participants joined us in creating a dance film, Tea and Tulips, filmed at Serendipities Cafe in Dundee.
The film premiered on the 6th World Parkinson’s Congress in Barcelona, taking place between 4th - 7th July 2023.
Dance for Parkinson’s at the V&A
As part of the social and performance opportunities we provide to our participants, we visited Dundee's Museum of Transport, and performed with our Dance for Parkinson’s at the V&A Dundee, inspired by Michael Clark's exhibition.
